The Club at Sunrise golf course is one of the true municipal courses left in the city. Previously named Desert Rose, The Club at Sunrise opened in 1964 by designer Joe Lee and Dick Wilson, The Club at Sunrise has seen its share of golfers and events. It is the host of the Annual Clark County Amateur who has had wins by PGA Tour players Craig Barlow and Robert Gamez. The Club at Sunrise is one of our cheaper priced courses, but caters to the new and experienced golfers.
One of the only courses left in Las Vegas where you are allowed to walk; playing at 6,511 yards the course isn’t rough on your back. The soft terrain is created by the thick Bermuda grass and covered by the many matured pine trees. What makes The Club at Sunrise truly contain history, is the wash that runs through the entire course. On the front nine the wash generally has a slow current, not to fierce but definitely something to watch out for. But on the back nine, it is much deeper and more prevalent with every shot. The new renovation has seen much needed work to the wash taking out a lot of the old swamp look and making it much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. If you are not contending with the wash, you will be challenged by the fairway bunkers guarding the undulated greens. The greens were created so that the undulations and well placed sand traps allow for tricky pin placements.
The famous hole at The Club at Sunrise golf course is Number 4, the 607 yard par-5 that plays all 3 swings for most golfers to a small, well-guarded green with deep grass and sand bunkers. Good luck with that one!
The Club at Sunrise is located about 15-20 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. The course also includes a lengthy driving range with mats and grass, chipping green, putting green, golf shop, and full-service restaurant and bar. The course runs Bermuda grass from tee to green with the greens having moderate to severe breaks. They have new upgraded carts and a completely renovated clubhouse/restaurant. The facility has come a long way since the old days.
